(YEI COUNTY) – The State Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Environment, Hon. Lily Kapuki, officially inaugurated a modern multi purpose farmers centre at Gimunu Boma in Yei town Payam on 27 August 2025. The project, constructed under the Resilience and Agriculture Livelihoods Project Additional Financing (RALP-AF), was implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Speaking at the event, Hon. Kapuki highlighted the centre’s potential to drive local economic growth. She said the facility would allow the community to manage resources according to their specific needs, improve agricultural practices, and promote self reliance.
“The centre’s design ensures that it remains relevant and impactful long after the NGO’s initial involvement,” she noted.
FAO Deputy Country Director, Mr. Felix Dzurumi, encouraged the community to take ownership of the centre. He emphasised that active local management would foster self-reliance and enhance the ability to utilise and manage local agricultural resources effectively.
Hon. Emmanuel Taban Seme, Commissioner of Yei River County, expressed gratitude to FAO for supporting local farmers. He stated that the centre would provide ongoing training, technology, and resources to promote sustainable farming practices, market access, and financial literacy in the county.
The centre is funded by the World Bank and aims to strengthen the capacity of farmers and local organisations, increase household food production, and improve resilience against disasters and shocks. The initiative is expected to enhance food and nutrition security across Yei County.
