(SOUTHERN UKRAINE) –<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0Ukraine has established fire control over the M14 highway, the critical land corridor connecting Russia to occupied Crimea, according to Russian military bloggers. The development represents a significant operational blow to Russian military logistics, as Ukrainian drone swarms render large sections of the so called \u201cland bridge\u201d increasingly unusable.<\/span><\/p>\n

One prominent Russian military blogger, Romanov, personally drove the route to document the situation. He warned that Russian forces are losing the ability to move safely along essential roads. Romanov wrote that the Ukrainian forces have \u201cbegun to reach the key logistical artery,\u201d the road running along the coast of the Sea of Azov through Mariupol, Berdiansk, and Melitopol to Crimea. He noted the road, used by trucks transporting fuel and military equipment, is now under constant attack by drones with a range of up to 200 kilometres, calling the situation \u201can extremely alarming signal\u201d for both military and civilian logistics.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another leading Russian military analyst, Rybar, openly admitted on state television that Ukrainian drones now dominate vast sections of the front and that Russian forces lack an effective countermeasure. Rybar conceded that long range Ukrainian drone strikes cannot be stopped due to a shortage of air defences, and that even hypothetical Russian advances would not halt attacks on rear areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a sign of deepening international support for Kyiv, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius and Ukraine\u2019s Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov signed a declaration in Kyiv on cooperation in defence technologies and innovation. The partnership will focus on joint production of new long range drones reportedly capable of striking targets up to 1,500 kilometres away, a range that would cover roughly 80 percent of Russia\u2019s oil industry. \u201cGermany and Ukraine are strategic partners. We are not only supporting your defence today, but building a lasting cooperation that others will have to reckon with,\u201d Pistorius said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Separately, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr St\u00f8re announced a new agreement with Ukraine on the joint production of long range 155mm artillery shells. Speaking on the agreement, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated, \u201cOur soldiers at the front in fact in all combat brigades talk about a long calibre of artillery… We will begin joint production with Norway on long range 155mm artillery shells. Exactly the type of ammunition we need.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Political pressure on Moscow is also mounting as the European Union plans to start membership talks with Ukraine in June, following a softening of resistance from Hungary. European Commissioner Marta Kos indicated that Hungary had expressed a positive signal, clearing a major obstacle for the advancement of Ukraine\u2019s accession process.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the economic situation inside Russia continues to deteriorate sharply. The Russian government\u2019s budget deficit has surged to levels not seen since the 1990s, surpassing the total deficit for all of 2025 by mid March. This financial collapse unfolds despite a recent 41 percent increase in oil and gas tax revenue. Russia\u2019s largest steel producer, Severstal, which previously reported a 90 percent year over year drop in net earnings for two consecutive quarters, had one of its major factory complexes in Cherepovets engulfed in flames.<\/span><\/p>\n

In further domestic turmoil, the chief executive of the company \u201cTransport of the Future,\u201d a drone manufacturer personally promoted by the Russian dictator, was arrested on charges of large scale fraud after allegedly looting the state backed firm. In the city of Engels, home to a strategic bomber airbase used to launch missiles at Ukraine, residents face deplorable conditions as large parts of the town have been inundated with raw sewage. Local reports show residents wading through foul smelling floodwater and children\u2019s playgrounds submerged in waste.<\/span><\/p>\n

Russian state propaganda has descended into deeper paranoia to compensate for the losses. On a leading talk show, host Vladimir Solovyov warned viewers without evidence that Germany, Finland, Poland, and Japan are plotting to invade Russia. In a further sign of societal strain, a civilian medic from the Samara region reported receiving a military summons, part of a widening mobilisation effort to draft medical workers to treat rising casualties from the war in Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n
