(KYIV, UKRAINE) –<\/strong>\u00a0Ukrainian defence and security forces continued to degrade Russian logistical capacity and manpower this week, with operations ranging from close quarters combat in the Donetsk region to deep precision strikes against fuel infrastructure along the Black Sea coast and in occupied territories.<\/p>\n

Video footage released by a Ukrainian unit operating in the settlement of Sosnove, Donetsk Oblast, captures a tactical clearance operation that ended in the deaths of two Russian fighters. The footage shows the unit entering a multi storey residential building identifiable by a Soviet era construction marking from 1973. One Russian soldier initially surrendered and was subsequently sent back up the stairs by Ukrainian forces to negotiate the surrender of a second individual inside, who the surrendered soldier identified as a foreign mercenary unable to speak Russian.<\/p>\n

The situation escalated when the second Russian fighter, instead of accepting terms, threw a grenade down the stairwell and opened fire. The blast killed the first Russian soldier who had been sent to parley and a firefight ensued. Ukrainian forces subsequently neutralised the second combatant. Both Russian army fighters were confirmed Killed In Action (KIA) as a result of the second man’s refusal to lay down arms.<\/p>\n

Separately, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has released footage of a successful drone operation targeting Russian fuel logistics deep within occupied Ukraine, likely in the Luhansk or Donetsk region. The video demonstrates a strike on a stationary train of fuel tanker cars. SBU operators noted that due to previous successful Ukrainian strikes on permanent fuel silos and storage depots in occupied Crimea and Russia, the Russian military has been forced to utilise railway cars for long term fuel storage, rendering them predictable and vulnerable targets. The footage shows a precision strike causing a single tanker car to erupt in flames. Observers noted that contrary to cinematic depictions of fuel train derailments, the fire did not spread to adjacent cars due to the protective iron sheeting surrounding the tanks.<\/p>\n

Further strikes were reported on the 15th and 16th of April. Ukrainian drone units have demonstrated the ability to distinguish between full and empty fuel storage tanks using thermal imaging cameras, which register the temperature variance of the liquid volume inside. On the 15th, drone operators conducted a successful strike on a facility containing multiple tanks, with thermal imaging clearly delineating which vessels contained the most fuel. Operators selected targets based on fill levels, resulting in large fireballs upon impact.<\/p>\n

On the 16th of April, a major fire erupted at an oil storage facility in the Russian Black Sea coastal city of Tuapse. Satellite imagery and local video footage captured a vast plume of black smoke rising from the depot, creating a mushroom cloud visible from the resort city of Sochi, approximately 75 kilometres away. The facility continued to burn fiercely following the Ukrainian drone attack, which local Russian civilians filmed and shared online.<\/p>\n

In related analysis, a video from Russian training grounds purporting to show soldiers applying tourniquets under simulated duress has been called into question regarding operational reality. The footage depicts troops with black bags placed over their heads to simulate visual and respiratory impairment. While such training is standard for many militaries, analysts note a stark discrepancy with frontline reports. Despite the focus on individual first aid application, Russian command logistics demonstrate a systemic failure to evacuate wounded soldiers from the battlefield.<\/p>\n
