(BOR, JONGLEI STATE) – The Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services has launched a new ICT Hub in Bor Town to support youth training and improve digital access across Jonglei State. The hub was opened on last Tuesday with financial support from MTN South Sudan.

The facility is intended to provide computer training, digital skills development and access to internet services for young people in Greater Jonglei. The project forms part of broader efforts to expand digital inclusion and create opportunities for youth employment and innovation.

Speaking at the launch, the Undersecretary for Telecommunications, acting on behalf of the National Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Engineer Thomas Gatkuoth Nyak, said the new centre is expected to contribute to both social and economic development in the region. He stated that improved access to technology can help young people participate more actively in education, business and communication.

The Jonglei State Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Hon Nyalele, who represented the State Governor during the launch, encouraged young people to use the computers and internet responsibly. She warned against misuse of online platforms and said that information technology should support peaceful coexistence and community development.

She also called on MTN to expand its network coverage beyond Bor Town, noting that many of the other nine counties in Jonglei still have weak or limited communication services.

In response, MTN Chief Executive Officer Mapula Bodibe acknowledged the concerns and announced that the company has entered into a partnership with Coursera.org to offer free online courses and certification for South Sudanese learners.

She said the goal is to increase access to global educational resources, particularly for youth who are seeking new skills for employment and entrepreneurship.

The launch of the ICT Hub in Bor comes at a time when access to digital resources remains uneven across the country.

More centres of this type have already been established in other regions by MTN South Sudan..
