(BOR COUNTY) – Bor County Commissioner, Samuel Ateny Pech Ariik, has launched an internal road renovation project aimed at improving access and easing movement within Bor town. The initiative unveiled on Friday seeks to rehabilitate major internal road networks that have been in poor condition for years.

Commissioner Ateny said the first phase of the works will focus on the Langbaar area. The priority stretches include the road from Karaba Roundabout to Langbaar Junction, the link from Akuot Ayol to Tibek, and the stretch from NRC Junction to Radio Jonglei. He explained that these roads have been major complaints from residents, especially during the rainy season when transport becomes almost impossible.

“I am responding to the urgent call by the people of Bor about the bad roads that have made life difficult for our residents,” he said during the launch. The Commissioner appealed to both the Bor Municipal Council and local residents to support the county government to ensure the project is completed on time.

He added that the renovation is not just a construction project but a commitment to improving infrastructure that is central to social and economic activity. “This project is a commitment to improving the infrastructure that is important for the social and economic well-being of our community,” he said.

The poor condition of Bor’s internal roads has been a long-standing issue, disrupting trade, transport, and daily life. Authorities say the renovation drive will ease these challenges and help boost both community life and local economic growth.

Commissioner Pech officially assumed office on September 22, 2025, following his swearing-in ceremony earlier this month. In his first public remarks, he pledged to prioritise peace, security, and development while working closely with traditional leaders to strengthen unity and improve service delivery. The road renovation project is his first major development initiative since taking office.
