(JUBA) – The Director General of the National Communication Authority (NCA), Gieth Kon Mathiang, has urged the public to adopt digital payment systems, highlighting their efficiency, reliability, and ability to reduce risks associated with handling cash.

Speaking at a preparatory meeting in Juba, DG Mathiang emphasised that digital payments can simplify transactions anywhere, making it easier for businesses and consumers to operate safely and cost-effectively.

“This system is reliable and secure. The risks associated with carrying cash, such as theft and loss, will be addressed. People will be able to conduct transactions using debit cards, even when travelling outside the country, which is particularly useful for international conferences,” he said.

Akum David Sabahker, Director of the National Payment System at the Bank of South Sudan, confirmed that the launch of the digital payment system will take place soon. He appealed to citizens to adopt the system, describing it as a tool to support economic growth and enhance market efficiency by facilitating trade.

“We have started engaging relevant authorities, including financial institutions, telecommunication networks, and mobile money operators, to ensure smooth implementation,” Mr. Akum said.

Both officials were speaking during a preparatory meeting between the Bank of South Sudan and NCA institutions, aimed at finalising the launch of the National Payment System.
