(JUBA) – The Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Dr. Addis Ababa Othow, has welcomed students from the University of Juba who visited the institution’s headquarters in the capital to extend their congratulations following his appointment earlier this year.

Dr. Othow, who assumed office in June 2025, expressed appreciation for the visit and used the occasion to stress the importance of education and the role of young people in shaping the country’s future.

“Thank you for your compliments. I strongly believe that education is the key to the future of our nation. Be ambassadors of peace, for you are the future of this great nation, South Sudan,” he told the students.

He added that the visit highlighted the symbolic connection between the country’s financial leadership and its academic community at a time when South Sudan continues to place emphasis on building capacity through education.

Speaking on behalf of the student delegation, Gatmai Alfred Koang praised Dr. Othow’s long service in academia and his contributions to public service:

“Dr. Addis Ababa, you are a noble man, a lecturer, mentor, and economist. Your professionalism has rightly qualified you for this high office.”

The Bank of South Sudan, established to oversee monetary policy and ensure financial stability, is currently under increased public attention as the institution implements reforms aimed at strengthening the local currency, the South Sudanese Pound (SSP), and stabilising inflation. At the official exchange rate of September 2025, one US dollar is equivalent to 4,600 SSP.

The University of Juba is the largest institution of higher learning in the country and produces graduates who are actively engaged in public, academic and economic affairs.

A statement on the central bank’s online platforms said the interaction between the Bank’s leadership and the students is a positive step in fostering dialogue between policy makers and the younger generation, who are expected to play an important role in nation building.
