(JUBA) – The Co-operative Bank of South Sudan has reaffirmed its role as a key partner in the country’s cooperative movement while highlighting a range of new services and initiatives designed to support businesses, families and communities across the country.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Elijah Wamalwa represented the bank at the International Day of Cooperatives event at the Pyramid Continental Hotel, which also marked the International Year of Cooperatives.
In his remarks, he said the bank is committed to empowering cooperatives as a foundation for economic and social development in South Sudan. He added that the cooperative movement remains an important driver of inclusive growth and financial access.
The bank has also rolled out several customer service improvements across its network. Clients can now use any Visa card at Co-operative Bank ATMs in South Sudan, offering greater convenience and accessibility. This expansion is part of the bank’s effort to align with international banking standards and provide faster and more reliable access to cash services.
Working with the Ministry of Finance, the bank has strengthened its role in managing government revenue collection. Customers can pay taxes securely at branches located in Wau, Kololo, Gudele, Malakia, Nimule, and Juba. According to the bank, this service has been designed to improve the speed, safety, and confidence with which businesses and individuals handle their financial obligations.
The Co-operative Bank of South Sudan has also enhanced its international money transfer services. With MoneyGram and SWIFT now available at its branches, customers are able to send and receive money from abroad securely and quickly. These services are particularly important for families relying on remittances from South Sudanese living overseas.
At the same time, the bank has continued to raise awareness on fraud prevention. Customers are regularly reminded never to share personal security details such as PIN numbers or the three digit code at the back of cards. The bank has set up reporting channels, including a dedicated phone line at 0929001224 and an email address at customerservice@co-opbankss.com, where suspicious activity can be reported immediately.
To ensure broader access, the bank has clarified that customers do not need to hold a Co-operative Bank Visa card to withdraw cash. Any Visa cardholder can use the bank’s ATMs, reducing barriers for clients and visitors seeking quick cash access.
The bank has also intensified its fraud awareness campaigns, warning clients about sophisticated scams in which fraudsters pose as bank officials. Customers are urged to remain vigilant, hang up suspicious calls, and report them directly to the bank for immediate action.
