The Eastern Equatoria State Governor, Louis Lobong Lojore, has reiterated his call for the complete removal of all cattle from Magwi County.

Governor Lobong made this appeal during an ordination ceremony at Our Lady of Assumption Parish Catholic Church in Loa on Friday.

He expressed concern over the reappearance of cattle in Magwi, animals that had previously crossed into Uganda. These herds, originally from neighbouring Jonglei State, have been causing extensive damage to farmland.

The destruction poses a threat to local food production and undermines the food security of the region. Governor Lobong clarified that the community’s demand is not based on ethnic differences but rather on the protection of land and livelihoods.

“It is not about displacing anyone but rather about removing cattle from a community that does not traditionally rear them,” explained Governor Lobong.

He emphasized that the concerns of the Magwi residents should not be misinterpreted. Resolving the cattle issue is crucial for restoring peaceful coexistence and safeguarding agriculture, which is vital to the economy of Magwi County.

Furthermore, Governor Lobong called on members of the Madi community who are currently residing across the border to return to their ancestral lands. He believes their presence would help prevent illegal occupation of vacant land and properties.
