The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, has urged members of the clergy to work alongside the government in promoting peace and stability across the region.

Governor Mujung made this call during a visit to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Rock City, Juba, where he worshipped with the congregation.

In a meeting with representatives of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, led by spokesperson Alfred Faustino, Mujung stressed the importance of unity and collaboration in addressing the challenges of insecurity, violence, and division that are affecting the area.

“We are witnessing senseless killings in our communities. It is imperative for us, as a society, including religious leaders and government officials, to come together to foster peace and coexistence,” the Governor emphasised.

He outlined the state government’s priorities, highlighting the need to restore peace, promote citizen unity, and address the escalating insecurity. The governor underscored that achieving peace requires the involvement of all sectors of society, including religious organisations.

Mujung also expressed concern over the emergence of criminal gangs, known locally as “Niggas” and “Torontos”, and urged religious leaders to discourage young people from joining such groups, promoting instead a culture of peace.

“I urge you to help engage with the holdout groups and encourage them to participate in the peace process. Let us remember how our unity during the referendum led to South Sudan’s independence,” he added.

In response, Alfred Faustino thanked the governor for his visit and his dedication to peace and development. He viewed the occasion as a positive indication of the growing mutual respect and understanding between the government and Jehovah’s Witnesses.

“Your presence here is greatly appreciated and demonstrates your commitment to peace and ethical leadership. We applaud your efforts in creating a peaceful and united state,” Faustino remarked.
