(TORIT) – Governor Louis Lobong Lojore has launched a major community engagement initiative to rehabilitate the Torit-Kapoeta road, a key transport corridor in Eastern Equatoria State. The project aims to improve connectivity, support trade, and enhance access for local communities.

The launch took place on 24 September 2025 at Ilieu village in Tuhubak Boma, where Governor Lobong encouraged roadside communities to actively participate. Residents are assisting with clearing bushes as Rhino Star Construction Company continues laying murram and opening waterways along the rehabilitated sections.

Lobong praised Ilieu village for its long history of peace and hospitality.

“Ilieu has stood as one of the most peaceful communities in Eastern Equatoria, where travellers pass without harassment,” he said, highlighting the importance of community collaboration for infrastructure projects.

The Governor assured that all communities along the road will benefit from the rehabilitation. He projected that work would reach Nadapal within two months, enhancing regional transport and trade opportunities.

In addition to infrastructure development, Governor Lobong directed the reopening of Ilieu Primary School, which had been closed for some time. He emphasised the importance of education in securing a brighter future for children in Eastern Equatoria, linking social development to infrastructure improvements.

The Torit–Kapoeta road rehabilitation, also known as the “Road to Unity” project, is part of a broader state initiative to improve transport links, engage local communities and stimulate economic activity across Eastern Equatoria.
