Imehejek Hospital has issued a plea for urgent medical assistance to help combat a rapidly spreading cholera outbreak in the region.
Dr. Khamis, the Medical Director of the hospital, expressed concern during an interview with Radio Emmanuel regarding the lack of medical supplies received from the state government or health partners since the outbreak was declared, putting the community at significant risk.
So far, the hospital has treated 271 cases of cholera, resulting in two deaths. Dr. Khamis praised the local residents in urban areas for their proactive efforts in purchasing drugs to assist in managing the outbreak.
It was revealed that no official isolation centre was established during the initial stages of the outbreak. Temporary centres have been set up at Lohotok and Ohilang Primary School to isolate patients, as there is no appropriate health facility in Western Lopit.
Imehejek Hospital is dependent on community contributions to procure and distribute medications to affected areas such as Ohilang and Iboni. Local volunteers are also offering support to hospital staff by assisting with food and logistics.
Mr. Lobeli Mark, the Health Executive Director for Imehejek administrative area, acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and stressed the immediate need for support in addressing the outbreak.
