(BOR COUNTY) – Governor Dr. Riek Gai Kok of Jonglei State received a detailed briefing from the World Food Programme (WFP) Bor Field Office and its subcontractors on 22nd September 2025 about the state’s upcoming infrastructure programme.

The initiative led by WFP in close collaboration with the Jonglei State Government is scheduled to begin in mid October 2025. Its main focus is constructing strategic road networks linking Bor to counties across the state. The project aims to improve movement of people and goods, enhance humanitarian access, and support local economic development.

Mr. Mohammed Satti, Head of WFP’s Bor Field Office, stressed the agency’s commitment to the programme. “We are not here as outsiders. We are one team with the Government of Jonglei State,” he said, highlighting strong engagement between WFP and both state and national authorities, reflecting mutual trust and shared priorities.

Eng. Allan Orimba, WFP Head of Engineering, confirmed that contractors will be mobilised by the end of September 2025 and expected on-site by mid-October. Key elements of the project include the construction of primary road corridors connecting counties, development of two new airstrips to improve regional air access, installation of multiple box culverts for drainage and road durability, and planning of additional infrastructure projects approved for 2026.

Governor Riek described the project as a “lifeline for the people of Jonglei.” He welcomed engineers and subcontractors and noted that traditional leaders, women’s groups, and the White Army have endorsed the programme. “I will personally supervise the process,” he said. “We will recruit local field supervisors to ensure community ownership and accountability. This is not just a government project. It is a people’s project.”

The programme is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce travel times, stimulate local trade, and facilitate humanitarian operations across Jonglei State.
