(JUBA) – The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) has concluded the 3rd Annual Women in Aviation Conference with a renewed commitment to increase women’s participation and leadership in the country’s aviation sector. The three day event, which ended on 31st October 2025 in Juba, brought together aviation professionals, policymakers, and corporate partners under the theme “Empowering Women, Transforming Aviation.”

The final day of the conference featured remarks from key industry figures including Apiu De Maiwak, Chairperson of the South Sudan Women in Aviation Association, David Manyuon Nak, Director General for Administration and Human Resource at the Bank of South Sudan; and Daffalla Habib Awongo, Director for Corporate Services at the SSCAA.

Speakers described the conference as a step towards building a more inclusive and skilled aviation workforce. They said women’s leadership in the sector was essential for innovation, safety, and economic development in South Sudan.

Ms. Maiwak praised the growing number of women joining technical and managerial roles in aviation, noting that such progress reflected South Sudan’s efforts to align with international gender equality standards in transport and infrastructure. She also encouraged companies to introduce mentorship and training programmes to help women advance in aviation-related careers.

Mr. Nak from the Bank of South Sudan added that financial institutions had a key role in promoting gender-responsive investments in aviation and transport infrastructure. He said empowering women in these sectors would not only promote equality but also contribute to national growth and resilience.

Meanwhile, Mr. Awongo of SSCAA commended the collaboration among private and public sector partners, stating that the authority remained committed to creating a supportive environment for women to thrive in aviation.

The event closed with a pledge from participants to strengthen partnerships, develop specialised training opportunities, and promote innovation within the aviation industry.
