(NAIROBI) – The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in Kenya has issued new travel and study guidelines for South Sudanese students planning to pursue their education in the country. The official notice, dated 18 August 2025, was released through the Embassy’s Educational Section in Nairobi.
According to the Embassy, students intending to travel must ensure that all travel and immigration documents are prepared in advance. These include a valid South Sudanese passport with at least six months of validity, an admission letter from a recognised Kenyan academic institution, and a Certificate of Good Conduct issued by the Criminal Investigation Department under the Ministry of Interior in Juba. Upon arrival in Kenya, students are also required to apply for and obtain a student visa from the Directorate of Immigration Services.
The Embassy further directed students to carry their original academic certificates and transcripts. These must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Juba. In addition, students are required to have four recent passport sized photographs.
Health and safety remain a central concern in the travel guidelines. All students must carry a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate and, where necessary, a recent medical clearance or health report as may be requested by their institution. The Embassy also encouraged students to provide emergency contact details of a parent or legal guardian.
Students were also reminded of the importance of complying with Kenyan laws and institutional regulations throughout their academic stay. The Embassy recommended carrying photocopies of all important documents and maintaining regular communication with the South Sudan Embassy in Nairobi to receive necessary support during their studies.
The Embassy concluded its statement by wishing South Sudanese students safe travels and academic success in Kenya.
