(JUBA) – The outgoing Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Hon. Dr. Addis Ababa Othow Akongdit, has expressed his gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for the opportunity to serve as the head of the country’s central bank, describing his tenure as a period of growth, reform, and renewed confidence in the national economy.
In a message of appreciation, Dr. Othow said serving as Governor of the Bank of South Sudan was one of the greatest honours of his public service career. He reflected on the institution’s recent efforts to strengthen monetary stability, modernise the national payments system, and improve governance within the banking sector.
Dr. Othow said these achievements were made possible through the support of the President, the Ministry of Finance and Planning, the Bank’s Board of Directors and management, and the collective effort of South Sudanese professionals committed to reform and progress.
He also expressed gratitude to President Kiir for his decision to allow a leadership transition at the central bank, describing it as a natural part of institutional renewal and national service.
“I fully understand that this is part of the process of leadership renewal and continuity in service to our nation,” Dr. Othow said.
During his tenure, the Bank of South Sudan introduced several reforms aimed at restoring public trust in the local currency and stabilising exchange rates. The measures were key in helping businesses plan better and in reducing volatility in the financial markets. The Bank also worked on digitising payment systems and improving coordination with commercial banks to support financial inclusion.
Dr. Othow reaffirmed his commitment to supporting South Sudan’s economic and financial development, pledging to contribute wherever needed to promote monetary stability and inclusive growth.
“I will continue to support the vision of His Excellency the President and the Government in building a modern, resilient, and prosperous South Sudan,” he said.
He concluded his statement by extending his blessings to the President and the people of South Sudan, wishing the country lasting peace, stability, and prosperity.
