Police authorities in Aweil East County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have detained an individual suspected of being responsible for the recent killing of a trader and the theft of over three million South Sudanese Pounds.
Acting Police Commissioner for Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Major General Mayom Riak, confirmed that the suspect, who remains unidentified, was apprehended with the stolen funds believed to have belonged to the deceased individual. General Riak disclosed that the money was recovered on the same day as the crime.
Ongoing investigations seek to determine whether the suspect acted independently or in collaboration with accomplices who managed to evade capture. The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation and will face legal proceedings once the investigative process is concluded.
General Riak detailed the incident, stating, “The previous day, an individual travelling from Malith Alek Yai was ambushed and killed by unidentified assailants, likely robbers. As of present, our initial findings indicate that the suspect was apprehended alone in possession of more than 3 million South Sudanese Pounds. He is yet to be brought to our facilities for questioning, with further updates to be provided in due course. Rest assured that the suspect is in custody.”
