(JUBA) – The Minister of Trade and Industry of South Sudan, Hon. Atong Kuol Manyang, hosted the Ambassador of Somalia to South Sudan, H.E. Jamal Hassan Khalif, at her office in Juba on November 5, 2025. The meeting focused on strengthening trade and economic relations between the two nations.
Ambassador Khalif thanked the Minister for the warm welcome and hospitality during his visit. He emphasised Somalia’s readiness to support South Sudan and further strengthen their existing economic partnership.
During discussions, the Ambassador raised concerns about Somali business people in South Sudan facing interference and unauthorised taxes from municipal authorities. He urged measures to ensure the protection of their investments.
Minister Manyang expressed appreciation for the Ambassador’s visit and highlighted the importance of ongoing engagement to deepen bilateral ties. She recognised Somali entrepreneurs for their contribution to South Sudan’s economy, particularly in fuel supply, banking, and construction.
The Minister encouraged Somali investors to explore larger roles in infrastructure development projects. She reassured the Ambassador that the Ministry and the Government of South Sudan are committed to providing a fair and secure business environment for all investors.
