(BAKU) – The Deputy Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, David Yauyau Jankuchi, has joined global telecommunication regulators and policy makers in Azerbaijan for discussions that focus on the future of digital development and how countries can use climate smart technology to support growth.

The Deputy Minister is attending the World Telecommunication Development Conference in Baku, where he is accompanied by officials from the National Communication Authority, the Media Authority, civil society groups, and the Secretary General of the Universal Service and Access Fund. The South Sudan delegation is taking part in meetings that bring together representatives from world telecommunication bodies, technology experts, and international regulators.

The twelve day conference will place major attention on digital inclusion, the expansion of rural broadband, skills development for youth and women, climate smart information technology, and efforts to improve cyber security systems. These areas are also important to South Sudan’s digital plans, especially as the country looks at ways to widen network coverage and strengthen online safety.

Speaking after the official opening, Deputy Minister David Yauyau said the conference would help the country in its digital transformation process. He noted that sharing experiences with other regulators and global institutions will support South Sudan in handling both opportunities and risks in the fast changing digital sector.

The discussions in Baku are expected to provide guidance on future investment, technical cooperation and measures that can support better services in areas that still lack reliable communication networks. South Sudan will also use the opportunity to seek partnerships that may help the country improve its technology infrastructure.
