(JUBA) – Two of South Sudan’s largest telecommunications companies, Zain and Digitel, are preparing to face each other this Sunday, 28 September 2025, in what is being billed as a “telecom derby” in the ongoing Corporate League. The match will be played at Buluk Training Ground in Juba, starting at 6:30 in the morning.
The Corporate League is part of a growing sports movement among South Sudanese companies, where corporate institutions use football and other sports as a platform for teamwork, employee engagement and brand visibility. The match between Zain and Digitel is expected to draw attention not only for its entertainment value but also for the rivalry between the two telecom providers.
Both companies are using the event to showcase their commitment to the community beyond their services. Zain South Sudan is fielding a strong squad as it looks to translate its network dominance into sporting success, while Digitel is expected to bring energy and determination to the game as it continues to expand its influence in the market.
In related news, Digitel has launched a promotional campaign alongside the league. The company announced that it will stream weekend English Premier League clashes live at Nimra Talata Volleyball Court in Juba on weekends. Entry for fans will be free.
Digitel also unveiled a fan reward competition linked to these free screenings. The first five supporters who predict the correct winning team before kick-off and hold a valid Digitel number will each win airtime worth SSP 10,000 (about 1.41 US dollars at the September 2025 exchange rate of $1 = 7,100 SSP), alongside other promotional giveaways.

The duel on the pitch and the fan promotions off it highlight the increasing use of sports and entertainment by South Sudanese telecom companies to build stronger relationships with customers. For consumers, it presents not only a chance to enjoy football but also to benefit from competitive marketing campaigns.
The involvement of big companies like Zain and Digitel suggests that corporate sports are becoming an important part of the country’s business culture, offering both employees and customers new avenues for engagement.
