(NAIROBI) – The founder and publisher of Ramciel Magazine, Deng Mayik Atem, has called on South Sudanese communities at home and abroad to embrace unity through culture, medi, and fashion. Speaking at the first edition of the Ramciel Beauty Pageant held at the Nairobi Hilton on 22 August 2025, Atem said the brand is dedicated to bringing South Sudanese people together across borders.
In his address, Atem emphasised that the name Ramciel represents togetherness. He noted that despite the country’s diverse tribes and languages, the project seeks to create a shared sense of belonging for South Sudanese in Juba, other regions of the country, and the diaspora. He described the initiative as a cultural bridge for South Sudanese people living abroad, particularly in Kenya and other neighbouring countries.
He highlighted that Ramciel is not only a magazine but also a growing entertainment and fashion brand. It promotes South Sudanese talent through music, clothing and storytelling. Atem also referred to his book Jumping Over the Ram, co-authored with Dr Kenneth Weene, which reflects on his childhood experiences in the SPLM and SPLA movements.
According to Atem, Ramciel’s vision is to become a symbol of South Sudanese pride.
“When somebody wears Ramciel apparel, they are expressing that South Sudan matters and that the people matter. The logo is not just a product but a sign of unity and aspiration,” he said.
The Nairobi event marked the debut of the Ramciel Beauty Pageant, which he described as a platform for self expression and confidence building. Contestants were recognised for their public speaking and personal development, with Atem stressing that communication skills are an important part of growth and leadership.
He credited his team for organising the pageant and extended appreciation to the artists, social media influencers, and entertainers who contributed to the event.
Ramciel Magazine also used the platform to promote its clothing line, encouraging audiences in Nairobi, Juba and other cities to explore its apparel and follow the brand’s online platforms for updates.
