(JUBA) – South Sudan and Israel have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening diplomatic dialogue and cooperation between the two nations. The agreement was signed on Wednesday morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation headquarters in Juba.

On behalf of the Republic of South Sudan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Monday Semaya K. Kumba, signed the document. Representing the State of Israel was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sharren Haskel.

The memorandum outlines a framework for regular consultations between the two countries’ foreign ministries and relevant government institutions. It is intended to promote closer coordination on political, economic, and development matters of mutual interest.

Officials from both sides described the agreement as a significant step forward in diplomatic engagement. They noted that it provides a structured channel for discussing bilateral issues, exploring joint projects, and fostering mutual understanding.

Diplomatic relations between South Sudan and Israel have been developing since South Sudan’s independence in 2011. This new agreement is expected to pave the way for enhanced cooperation in areas such as agriculture, technology exchange, trade, and capacity building.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the signing demonstrates South Sudan’s intention to strengthen its international partnerships as part of a broader foreign policy strategy.

Both ministers expressed optimism that the agreement would benefit citizens of both nations by encouraging practical collaboration and reinforcing the bonds of friendship.
