(KYIV) – Ukrainian attack drones have struck an oil depot in the occupied Crimean city of Kerch, located within close proximity to the Kerch Bridge, according to video footage and photographs circulating on social media.
The strike targeted the Kerch oil depot near the port, with multiple drones hitting the facility. Visual evidence shows a large blaze with several oil silos on fire. The depot is situated on land, and while an oil tanker was docked nearby at the time of the attack, no vessels were reported hit.
The facility is understood to supply fuel for domestic use within occupied Crimea, as the peninsula has no oil refineries of its own. The strike is likely to exacerbate existing fuel shortages in the region, which Ukrainian forces have been working to isolate through sustained logistical strikes.
The oil depot is located within extremely close range of the Kerch Bridge, the strategic link between occupied Crimea and the Russian mainland. Analysts have noted that the proximity of the strike demonstrates Ukrainian drones can penetrate Russian air defences in the area, raising questions about the bridge’s vulnerability to similar attacks.
Unconfirmed reports and NASA FIRMS data also indicated a possible strike near Port Kavkaz, also close to the Kerch Bridge. No verified visual evidence has yet emerged from that location. It remains unclear whether the target was the Kerch Ferry, two of which Ukraine has previously destroyed, or another oil depot.
Video footage from the area showed three separate fires at the depot, with two large blazes and a smaller one on the right hand side. The facility comprises approximately seven oil storage tanks, according to satellite imagery.
