(NAIROBI) – South Sudan marked its national exhibition day at the 25th East African Community Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Trade Fair in Nairobi, where local entrepreneurs presented a wide range of products and innovations to regional buyers and business partners.

The event took place at Uhuru Gardens as part of the 25th edition of the fair, which brings together traders and investors from across the East African Community. South Sudan’s participation focused on agribusiness, manufacturing, trade services, and emerging technology products that small and medium enterprises are developing.

Officials said the exhibition reflects the growing interest among South Sudanese businesses to access regional markets. Traders displayed processed foods, agricultural products, handmade goods, textiles, and technology driven solutions that are increasingly gaining attention in neighbouring countries.

The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards, which coordinated the national participation, said it is committed to helping businesses meet regional and international quality rules. The institution said that compliance with standards remains essential for regional trade, market access, and building trust in South Sudanese products.

The Bureau said its support aims to help local enterprises improve product safety, packaging, and certification so they can compete effectively in East Africa. It added that better standards also help reduce losses, improve investment confidence, and open new trade opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises at home and abroad.

Participants at the event noted that the trade fair offers an important platform for business networking, learning, and exploring new supply chains. Many exhibitors said that face to face interaction with buyers helps them understand market demands, pricing, and packaging requirements in the region.

Business leaders in Juba have been encouraging wider participation in regional trade fairs as South Sudan continues to increase its involvement in East African Community economic activities. They say that showcasing local products abroad can help expand exports and diversify the economy beyond traditional sectors.

The South Sudan pavilion attracted visitors from across the region who expressed interest in fresh produce, crafts, and small scale manufactured goods. Exhibitors said that the level of interest shows that local enterprises have potential to grow if given consistent support in standards, training, and market access.

The fair will continue to host regional participants throughout the week, with South Sudan hoping that the event will further strengthen trade links with Kenya and other East African Community member states.
