(NOVOROSSIYSK, RUSSIA) – Recent satellite imagery has confirmed that a Russian Kilo class submarine remains stationary and heavily damaged at the port of Novorossiysk following a precision Ukrainian drone strike three days ago. High resolution images from Maxar indicate that while other vessels have been relocated within the holding area, the targeted submarine is currently chained to the pier and appears to be sagging in the water.
Local reports suggest the vessel’s engine and hull may have sustained critical underwater damage that the Russian dictator’s regime is attempting to conceal. In an unprecedented move, the Russian navy has effectively surrendered control of the Black Sea by scuttling three barges at the entrance of the Novorossiysk naval base. This self imposed blockade prevents Ukrainian sea drones from entering the facility but also traps the remaining Russian fleet, including frigates and cruisers, inside the port.

The economic pressure on the Russian state is intensifying as Ukraine continues its systematic campaign against energy infrastructure. A recent drone strike targeted the Slavansk oil refinery in the Krasnodar Oblast, which produces approximately 4 million tons of petroleum products annually.

This facility, located 350 kilometres from Ukrainian territory, had not been targeted since May 2024, signaling a shift in Kyiv’s strategic priorities. Simultaneously, an inland tanker was set ablaze at a loading pier in Rostov on Don. These inland vessels are vital for Russia’s energy exports, as they ferry oil to larger tankers in the Black Sea for ship to ship transfers.

To counter the threat of maritime drones, the Russian dictator has reportedly deployed armed personnel aboard shadow fleet vessels, a move analysts describe as a desperate and inefficient use of military manpower.

Data from Bloomberg indicates that the Russian economy is facing a significant crisis as export prices for Urals crude have plummeted. In the Baltic, prices fell to $40.70 per barrel, while Black Sea cargos dropped to $37.41 per barrel. These figures are well below the Russian state’s revised 2025 budget breakeven point of $56.00 per barrel.

Russian Oil Export Prices vs. Budget Requirements

Oil Source / Type Current Price (USD) Current Price (RUB)
Black Sea Urals $37.41 3,741.00 ₽
Baltic Urals $40.70 4,070.00 ₽
Pacific Crude $50.97 5,097.00 ₽
Russian Budget Breakeven $56.00 5,600.00 ₽

On the battlefield, Ukrainian forces have achieved significant tactical successes. In the north, Ukraine has reclaimed 90 percent of Kupiansk after a campaign that disabled a secret Russian pipeline infiltration route. Despite claims from the Russian defense ministry that they maintain control, military bloggers and intelligence reports confirm that Russian pockets in the city are isolated and lack resupply.

Near Pokrovsk, the Russian 76th Guards Air Assault Division is reportedly suffering heavy casualties, with recent footage showing the destruction of a convoy of 16 quad bikes by Ukrainian artillery. Additional strikes have been confirmed at the Belbek airbase in occupied Crimea, resulting in the loss of approximately $200 million (£158 million) worth of equipment, including a MiG 31 jet and several advanced radar systems.

Political tensions are also rising as the Russian dictator continues to use aggressive rhetoric, recently referring to European leaders as piglets and insisting that Moscow’s territorial goals will be met unconditionally. He has clarified that the conflict is a pursuit of historic lands, dismissing previous propaganda regarding NATO expansion.

Meanwhile, there is growing concern in Europe over the influence of Donald Trump, whose proposed peace plans are viewed with skepticism by Kyiv. President Zelenskyy has stated that 75 percent of Ukrainians reject any plan requiring the withdrawal from the Donbas region.

In the United States, Trump has ordered a blockade of Venezuela, claiming he intends to reclaim assets seized decades ago, a move critics suggest is motivated by personal financial interests. In Europe, the Belgian Prime Minister has reportedly received death threats from Moscow as the EU debates the seizure of $300 billion (£237 billion) in frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s defense.
