(MOSCOW) – Russian state aligned commentators have publicly acknowledged that Ukraine has successfully resisted Russia’s military campaign and that Moscow has failed to defeat the country after four years of full scale war.
In remarks shared on Russian media platforms, one propagandist questioned the lack of progress, asking why nothing had worked out for Russia over the past four years. He attributed this failure to what he described as the extreme persistence and determination of Ukrainians, saying they were a nation that knew how to fight as well as Russian forces.
The comments reflect a rare public admission within Russia’s tightly controlled media environment that the war has not produced the results promised by the Kremlin. Since launching its full scale invasion in February 2022, Moscow had expected a swift victory and the rapid collapse of Ukrainian resistance.
Instead, Ukrainian forces, backed by Western military and financial support, have held key positions, reclaimed occupied territories, and prevented Russian troops from advancing towards Kyiv.
Despite these setbacks, Russian propagandists continue to frame the conflict as unfinished. They argue that the war will not end until Russian forces are positioned close to the Ukrainian capital, suggesting that Moscow still views control over Kyiv as a central objective.
“Why has nothing worked out [for us] in four years? Because Ukrainians are an insanely persistent, stubborn nation that knows how to fight just as well as we do.”
