(MICHURINSK, TAMBOV OBLAST) – A freight train transporting gasoline derailed and exploded on Wednesday at the Kochetovka 2 railway station in the Tambov region of Russia. The incident, which occurred at approximately 15:34 local time, resulted in a massive fire that affected roughly 30 railway cars. Local officials confirmed that 11 tanks of gasoline and five containing gas were engulfed in flames, prompting a large scale emergency response involving 25 units of equipment and two specialised firefighting trains.

The Kochetovka 2 station serves as a significant railway hub on the strategic route connecting Moscow to Voronezh and Rostov. This corridor is essential for the Russian dictator’s military logistics, frequently used to transport fuel and equipment to southern regions. While Russian authorities have opened a criminal case into potential safety violations, the possibility of sabotage by internal actors has not been excluded. Similar incidents of railway disruption have previously occurred across the Russian Federation as part of domestic resistance to the invasion of Ukraine.

Initial reports indicate that at least one person, the train driver, sustained serious burns and was hospitalised. No further casualties have been confirmed, although the explosion was significant enough to be seen from several kilometres away. The blast caused immediate disruption to the regional transport network, delaying at least eight passenger trains, including services bound for Moscow and occupied Crimea.

The financial impact of the lost cargo and damaged rolling stock is estimated to be considerable, including the costs of infrastructure repair and locomotive damage.
