(KYIV, UKRAINE) – Ukrainian special forces carried out long-range strikes in 2025 that severely damaged key elements of Russia’s layered air defence system. The operation, led by the Alpha unit of Ukraine’s Security Service, resulted in the destruction or neutralisation of Russian air defence assets valued at approximately $4 billion.

Among the destroyed systems were surface-to-air missile platforms, including the C-300, C-350 and C-400 series, Buk-M1 and M2 complexes, Pantsir-S1 and S2 missile-gun systems, and Tor-M1, M2, and M3 units.

In addition, Russian radar and targeting equipment suffered significant losses. Critical assets affected included the 55Zh6U Nebo-U and Nebo-M radar stations, Podlyot and Niobiy radar systems, Kasta-2E2 and Gamma-D radars, the Protivnik-GE system, as well as radar components of Buk, C-300 and C-400 units and the 92N6 radar. These systems are essential for detecting aerial targets and directing air defence operations.

The strikes produced a systematic effect, creating gaps in Russia’s multi-layered air defence network. These corridors allowed Ukrainian long-range drones to operate more safely within enemy territory, targeting military bases, ammunition depots, airfields, and other critical infrastructure.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported the operation as a key component of ongoing efforts to degrade Russian military capabilities and ensure operational freedom for Ukrainian forces across contested areas.
