(UKRAINE) – Ukrainian special forces are now training with shotguns as a key defence against the growing threat of Russian first-person-view (FPV) attack drones on the front lines. Operators from the 3rd Special Operations Regiment have been conducting regular drills to master the use of smoothbore weapons specifically for counter-drone operations.

Military experts emphasise that simply possessing weapons is insufficient without consistent training. The regiment’s personnel are therefore undergoing intensive practice with various arms, including shotguns, which have proven effective in intercepting small, fast-moving FPV drones at close range.

Before deploying the tactic in combat, soldiers must select the correct type of ammunition, become accustomed to different reloading mechanisms and sighting techniques, and learn to engage moving targets. The training focuses on firing at drones from various positions, distances, and speeds to replicate real battlefield conditions.

The regiment has issued a public call for recruits, stating that those wishing to receive high quality training and work with modern weaponry are invited to join their ranks.
