(KRA SNODAR KRAI, RUSSIA) – Drones operated by Ukraine’s Security Service have struck the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, causing damage to storage tanks and pipelines and triggering an oil spill and a large fire, according to sources cited by UNN.
The attack targeted infrastructure at the Tamanneftegaz terminal, one of the largest oil and gas transshipment facilities in the Black Sea region. The port plays a significant role in the export of oil, gas and ammonia. Its storage facilities for petroleum products and liquefied gas have a combined capacity of more than one million cubic metres.
Sources within the Security Service of Ukraine said that several tanks containing vacuum gas oil and fuel oil were damaged during the operation. Technological pipelines located at the berths were also hit, disrupting the movement of petroleum products through the terminal.
Damage was reported to shut off valves connected to the affected tanks. This led to leaks of oil products, which subsequently ignited. The fire covered an estimated area of around 7,000 square metres, emergency services in the region were reported to have said.
Preliminary assessments place the financial damage at approximately 50 million US dollars, equivalent to about 4.5 billion Russian roubles at current exchange rates.
An informed source within the Security Service said the operation was part of a broader campaign to target energy and export infrastructure used by the Russian Federation. According to the source, revenues generated by such facilities contribute directly to Russia’s state budget and are used to finance military operations against Ukraine.
The Security Service said that continued strikes on key energy and logistics hubs are intended to weaken Russia’s economic capacity and reduce its ability to sustain the war.
