(TUAPSE, KRASNODAR KRAI) – Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has claimed a drone strike on energy infrastructure in Tuapse could trigger an environmental catastrophe. He made the assertion during a meeting on security issues related to the 2026 elections, according to Russian state media.
“Drone strikes are increasingly being carried out against civilian infrastructure. Here is the latest example — the strikes on energy facilities in Tuapse, which could potentially cause serious environmental consequences,” Putin said.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed a precision strike on the Tuapse oil refinery. It also verified hits on the Ai Petri radar station belonging to the Russian occupiers’ radio technical battalion and a number of other military-linked facilities. The refinery strike produced large volumes of toxic emissions and visible water pollution, according to open source intelligence and local reports, raising concerns about ecological damage along the Black Sea coast.
Russian authorities have presented the incident as an attack on purely civilian infrastructure, while Ukrainian military sources maintain the refinery was processing fuel for the Russian war effort. The refinery is situated in the Krasnodar Krai region of southern Russia, a key logistical hub supporting Moscow’s military operations.
