(KRASNODAR KRAI, RUSSIA) – Ukrainian drones struck the strategic Russian oil export terminal and refinery in Tuapse for the third consecutive day, triggering massive fires and exposing deepening public anger at the Kremlin’s inability to protect its own territory.
The overnight precision strike prompted chaotic scenes in the southern coastal city, with footage verified by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine showing towering infernos and thick plumes of black smoke blanketing the port area. Local residents reported that petroleum products were visibly running down the streets of Tuapse, creating an environmental and logistical disaster zone.
Russian state television channels broadcast striking footage of panicked locals, marking a rare moment of unsanctioned public dissent. “We did not know Russia was so weak,” one resident told a camera crew. Another bluntly assessed the situation, stating, “The system failed.” Dozens of onlookers echoed the sentiments, openly condemning the lack of any coordinated emergency response from Moscow as oil slicks spread through residential districts.
The attack appears to have rendered the export terminal, a critical node for financing the Russian war machine, inoperable. Satellite imagery suggests the cumulative damage from the three-day assault has crippled the facility, mirroring the destruction of a similar terminal in Primorsk earlier this year. Despite the intense inferno, locals complained that only volunteers and small regional services were attempting to cope with the aftermath. “Nobody cares about us,” a resident lamented.
In a further blow to the Russian dictator’s narrative, officials led by Sergei Lavrov continued to issue statements praising the supposed “positive” outcomes of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian media juxtaposed these declarations with the apocalyptic scenes in Tuapse, a juxtaposition widely mocked by independent military bloggers.
Ukrainian sources noted that the systematic destruction of Russia’s oil export infrastructure is directly eroding the fossil fuel revenues that fund missile and drone strikes against Ukrainian cities. Local organisers in Tuapse, which in 2022 actively staged rallies supporting the invasion, are now facing the tangible consequences of the conflict’s return to Russian soil.
The operation emphasises the severe vulnerabilities of Russian air defences against long-range drone swarms. The phrase “I did not know Russia was so weak” is trending across Telegram channels, turning the disaster into a potent symbol of the regime’s fragility as more Russian cities experience the reality of war.
