(MOSCOW RUSSIA) – Russian state media propagandist Vladimir Solovyov has alleged that Western powers are orchestrating a concerted campaign to destabilise the Russian Federation from within. The claims were broadcast during a recent episode of his programme, “Sunday Evening With Vladimir Solovyov,” on the Russia-1 channel.
During the monologue, Solovyov pivoted from a lengthy and sarcastic appraisal of United States President Donald Trump’s recent social media activity and his treatment of NATO allies, to address what he framed as internal subversion against the Russian state. He described the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which he referred to as a “serious, difficult war,” and warned that the nation would struggle until every citizen internalises the reality of this military undertaking.
“Look at how they are beginning to rock the situation inside the country,” Solovyov stated, as translated from the Russian transcript. “And they are doing this through characters well known for their venality.”
The television host claimed that narratives critical of the authorities are being amplified within social media platforms banned in Russia. He argued this constitutes a deliberate operation financed by Western adversaries. “This is frank work inside the country. What is the main idea? The Kremlin does not hear. The Kremlin does not understand,” Solovyov said, characterising the purported external strategy.
Solovyov further invoked historical parallels to the final years of the Russian Empire, specifically referencing the hardships of 1916 and the revolutionary upheaval of 1917. “I remind you of 1916, a hard winter, and then the winter of ’17 with the saucepans,” he said. “Who is spinning this? People who do not live in our country.”
He dismissed the legitimacy of criticism voiced by military bloggers or exiled figures, suggesting their financial motives had been curtailed by recent bans on certain social networks. “I have simple and clear questions. Without any emotions… Please give a concrete answer so that the status of these people is clear,” Solovyov demanded. “Who are they, what are they, with whose money and in whose interests are they trying to intervene and give an assessment and distort the attitude of the real authorities to what is happening in the country?”
The broadcast concluded with a call for stricter media discipline among Russian citizens, urging them to be more discerning about the sources of information they trust, particularly if those sources originate from platforms designated as “terrorist” by Russian authorities.
The segment obviously represents a continued effort by state controlled Russian media to frame domestic dissent or war fatigue as a foreign intelligence operation rather than a natural response to economic strain and military losses.
