(KYIV) — Recent data from the Ukrainian military regarding Russian combat losses has indicated the destruction of a Russian naval vessel, though specific details concerning the identity and class of the craft remain unconfirmed. The inclusion of a ship or boat in the daily casualty figures has prompted significant international speculation, as no official naval losses had been publicly verified by independent monitors at the time of the report.

Initial theories circulating online suggested that an Admiral Grigorovich class frigate might have been targeted. These claims were primarily based on satellite imagery captured shortly after a recent Ukrainian strike on Novorossiysk. The footage appeared to show smoke emanating from a Grigorovich class vessel at its berth. However, naval analysts suggest that the smoke originated from the area of the funnel, indicating it was likely the result of engine activity rather than a successful kinetic strike.

Experts have posited several alternative scenarios. It is possible that the vessel in question is a smaller craft, such as a Raptor or a BK16 patrol boat. Ukrainian forces have previously utilised FPV drones to successfully target such vessels, and a similar engagement may have occurred recently without the immediate release of supporting video evidence. Another significant possibility involves a Project 1124 Albatross corvette, also known as a Grisha class corvette. Satellite observations of the harbour noted unusual staining on the water surface adjacent to one of these anti submarine ships.

While no structural breaches or catastrophic damage were visible on the Albatross, the markings are consistent with the residue left by chemical fire suppression foam. This suggests the corvette may have been struck by a drone and subsequently caught fire. If this vessel is the one referenced by the Ukrainian military, it appears to have sustained damage rather than being completely destroyed. The Albatross is an ageing class of small corvette, and while many have been decommissioned, the Black Sea Fleet under the Russian dictator currently maintains four in active service. Two additional units were seized from Ukraine during the illegal occupation of Crimea, one of which was reportedly used as a target and sunk during exercises.

Other potential targets include a Serna class landing craft. It is anticipated that further information will emerge once Ukrainian authorities release accompanying operational footage.
