Bank of South Sudan Invites Bids for Foreign Exchange Auction to Boost Market Confidence

(JUBA COUNTY) – The Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) has issued a public invitation for commercial banks to participate in a scheduled Foreign Exchange Auction to be held on Thursday, 7 August 2025. The initiative is part of the Central Bank’s ongoing efforts to enhance transparency, promote accountability, and restore confidence in the country’s foreign exchange system.

According to the official announcement released by the Directorate of Banking Operations under the Financial Markets Department, eligible commercial banks are encouraged to submit competitive bids indicating their preferred exchange rate and the amount they wish to purchase.

The auction process will take place within a strict timeline on the specified date. Bids must be submitted between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, after which no further applications will be considered. The adjudication of submitted bids will occur between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM.

BoSS has provided separate submission guidelines based on banks’ access to the Refinitiv trading platform. Commercial banks with Refinitiv access are required to submit their bids directly via the platform. For those without access, the Central Bank has directed them to submit signed and authenticated bid forms scanned into a single PDF file. These must be sent by email to five designated officials at the Central Bank:

The application forms and detailed bidding guidelines are available at the Front Office Division of the Financial Markets Department during official working hours. They can also be downloaded from the official Bank of South Sudan website: www.boss.gov.ss.

An important requirement stated in the announcement is that successful bidders must immediately deposit physical cash into their settlement accounts held at the Bank of South Sudan. Full settlement must be completed within 24 hours of the announcement of the auction results. The preferred method of settlement is through wire transfer to each successful bank’s Nostro account.
