An expert in the field of health has provided reassurance to new mothers that breastfeeding does not have a negative impact on their physical appearance.

This announcement comes during the launch of World Breastfeeding Week 2025 by the Ministry of Health and its partners. The goal of this initiative is to encourage mothers to consider breastfeeding as recent data indicates that many children are missing out on the advantages of maternal milk.

World Breastfeeding Week, observed globally from August 1st to the 7th each year, is focusing on the importance of establishing sustainable systems of support to promote breastfeeding for all infants.

Richard Akoro, a nutrition specialist collaborating with IsraAID, highlighted the numerous health benefits of breastfeeding and dispelled the misconception that it can lead to undesirable changes in a woman’s physical appearance.

Akoro stated, “The idea that breastfeeding negatively impacts a woman’s appearance is simply untrue. Breasts serve the vital purpose of providing nourishment to infants. Women should be confident that breastfeeding will not have adverse effects on their assets.”

He added, “It is essential for expectant mothers to understand that factors other than breastfeeding can contribute to changes in breast appearance. This message should be acknowledged by all, including prominent figures.”

Akoro also encouraged men to accompany their partners to prenatal appointments, stressing that breastfeeding is advantageous for both mother and child. The key takeaway is to consider the benefits of breastfeeding and to support mothers in their breastfeeding journey.
