(MAGWI) – In early January this year, villages in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State were attacked by armed cattle herders in an incident that forced thousands of Madi and Achowli community members to flee their homes. The attackers unleashed their cattle on farmlands, burned homes, looted property, killed civilians and stole livestock, leaving entire villages in ruins.
According to humanitarian sources, the violence displaced hundreds of families, many of whom escaped with only the clothes on their backs. As the security situation stabilised, community leaders advised the affected families to return and begin the difficult process of rebuilding. However, they now face significant challenges, including lack of shelter, exposure to harsh weather, and shortages of basic necessities.
The onset of the rainy season has worsened conditions for the displaced, many of whom are still living outdoors. Families urgently need shelter materials, food, clean water, medicines, clothing and bedding. Christian Aid Ministries (CAM), a humanitarian organisation, has stepped in to provide critical relief supplies.
The organisation is distributing tarpaulins, mats, blankets, food items, medicine, and clothing. It is also supporting the reconstruction of homes by providing essential building materials. Additionally, CAM is using the outreach as an opportunity to share Bibles and spiritual encouragement with those affected.
