(JUBA) – The Bank of South Sudan has held a health awareness session for its female employees as part of efforts to improve workplace wellness and staff retention. The talk which focused on women’s health was organised by the Directorate of Administration and Human Resources in cooperation with New Sudan Insurance Company.

A team of visiting specialists from Andalusia Egypt led the session. The group included Dr Ashraf Wagdy Matta Serbana, Dr Mahmoud Gamal Mohamed, Dr Mostafa Magdy Ahmed, Dr Hossam Ibrahim Mohamed and Dr Amr Ahmed Mohamed. The doctors spoke about common health challenges facing women in the workplace and stressed the importance of early check ups.

The Deputy Director of Human Resources, Marnas Ngundeng, attended the event along with several staff members. Bank representatives said such programmes are designed to promote staff welfare while strengthening the institution’s reputation as a responsible employer.

The Bank of South Sudan has in recent years been working to improve employee benefits beyond salaries. Health education programmes, occupational safety training and insurance partnerships are becoming more common as public institutions try to keep skilled workers in a competitive labour environment. While salaries in most government offices remain low compared to the private sector, many agencies are investing in non cash incentives to retain talent.

Financial institutions in South Sudan are gradually expanding employee support services. Some commercial banks now include annual health checks, transport allowances and staff savings plans in their employment packages. Analysts say workplace benefits will continue to grow as more international partners enter the insurance and medical sectors.

Employees who attended the session said it provided practical advice that many women often struggle to access due to cultural and financial barriers. Health specialists encouraged staff to seek medical advice early instead of waiting for complications.

The Bank has not yet announced whether similar sessions will be held for male employees, but human resource officials indicated that more wellness programmes are being planned.
