(JUBA) – The Bank of South Sudan has released the official exchange rates for Tuesday, 19 August 2025, showing the South Sudanese Pound (SSP) trading steadily against major international and regional currencies.
According to the central bank’s publication, the US dollar was set at a selling rate of 4,616.46 SSP and a buying rate of 4,480.01 SSP. At the current official conversion, this means one South Sudanese Pound equals approximately 0.00022 US dollars.
The Euro and British Pound Sterling showed stronger positions against the South Sudanese Pound, with the Euro selling at 5,393.52 SSP ($1.17) and the Pound Sterling at 6,253.91 SSP ($1.36).
In regional markets, the South Sudanese Pound traded at 35.79 SSP to the Kenyan Shilling ($0.0078) and 1.29 SSP to the Ugandan Shilling ($0.00028). Against the Sudanese Pound, the rate stood at 1.29 SSP selling, while the Ethiopian Birr traded at 7.73 SSP. The Tanzanian Shilling and Rwandan Franc traded at 1.77 SSP and 3.22 SSP respectively.
The publication of official rates is a key instrument by the Bank of South Sudan to regulate the forex market and guide commercial banks, businesses, and the wider public.
With the economy still facing pressures from reduced oil revenues and growing demand for imports, stability in the forex market remains vital for price control and inflation management.
The US dollar remains the most traded foreign currency in South Sudan, reflecting the country’s dependence on imports and the dollar’s dominance in global trade.
