(AWEIL) – A driver is missing after a Land Cruiser pickup overturned three times while travelling as part of a wedding convoy heading to Marial Bai in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State on July 05.

The vehicle was transporting guests to the traditional wedding ceremony of Yai Deng Pioth and Atap Riiny Riiny when the incident occurred.

Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle rolled multiple times before coming to a halt. Following the crash, onlookers said they saw the driver escape through a narrow window before fleeing into a nearby forest.

The local police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash and are actively searching the surrounding area for the missing driver. Security forces are also interviewing witnesses as part of the inquiry.

Two passengers who were injured during the crash were transported to Aweil Civil Hospital. According to hospital officials, both individuals are receiving treatment and are in stable condition. They are responding well to medical care and are expected to recover.

Local officials have urged the public to report any sightings or information about the missing driver. The police say locating the individual is crucial for completing the investigation and verifying his safety and condition.

They also reminded drivers and convoy organisers to observe traffic regulations and prioritise safety during all public gatherings and celebrations.
