(JUBA COUNTY) – Presidential Envoy for Special Programmes, Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit, has pledged to focus on service delivery, transparency and inclusiveness in her new role, saying her appointment comes at a time when South Sudan faces major social and economic challenges.

Adut returned from Europe on Thursday and was officially welcomed at a reception in Juba. She told guests that her mission was to help reconnect leadership with citizens through tangible services in education, healthcare, tourism and community development.

“I am representing women, the youth, the vulnerable and those with unspoken voices. I also represent fathers and their struggles, and a nation with high hopes. I do not take this responsibility lightly,” she said.

Adut recalled her early life experiences in Malakal, Bouma, Ethiopia and Gambella, describing how the liberation struggle shaped her upbringing. She thanked the many women and families who played a role in her childhood, including relatives of fallen SPLM leaders, saying their sacrifices taught her resilience and responsibility.

She also highlighted her personal connection to communities across South Sudan, adding that her background as an economist and businesswoman had given her experience in working with diverse groups. She explained that she intended to use this knowledge to support local initiatives and improve access to services.

“My open door policy will take effect immediately. You can come to my office, I will listen and my team will also listen. I will not change my phone number and I will remain available to the public,” she said, adding that she would remain open to criticism.

Adut said real celebrations would only be justified when promises are delivered. “The celebration will come when we open a 450 bed hospital, when we establish schools, dispensaries and clinics. That is when we will know progress is being achieved,” she said.

She acknowledged the heavy expectations placed on her and pledged to carry out her work with integrity when representing South Sudan abroad. “When I speak to partners, whether in Qatar or elsewhere, I will represent our dignity with respect. I will not let you down,” she said.

She thanked guests for their patience at the long reception and promised that her work would focus on practical results that directly improve lives. She concluded by attributing her appointment and survival to faith, telling the audience: “This morning I told God to go ahead of us. I can see through each of you that He did, because we are here together today.”
