(JUBA) – The Government of South Sudan, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, has launched the Empowering Women and Youth to Drive Sustainable Agriculture (EWYSA) project in Central Equatoria State.
The initiative aims to support 1,200 small-scale vegetable farmers, with at least 60 percent of beneficiaries being women. The project will provide modern irrigation systems, quality seeds, farming tools, technical training and access to markets to improve productivity and promote sustainable agriculture.
Oxfam South Sudan will implement the programme, which seeks to empower women and youth while increasing local food production and strengthening economic opportunities in rural communities.
Funding for the initiative comes from the India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA) Fund through the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation.
The project is expected to improve agricultural output, create jobs, and reduce reliance on food imports, while enhancing the livelihoods of women and youth farmers in Central Equatoria.
