(JUBA) – MTN South Sudan has introduced a new Sunday promotion offering free access to its MTN TV platform for mobile subscribers who maintain a minimum airtime balance of SSP 500. The offer is part of a wider effort to promote digital streaming and mobile app engagement in the country.

Subscribers who log in to the myMTN App every Sunday with at least SSP 500 airtime (approximately $0.11 at the current official exchange rate of $1 = 4,600 SSP) will receive complimentary access to MTN TV, allowing them to stream local and international content at no additional cost.

The initiative, branded under the hashtag #YelloSunday, aims to position MTN TV as a key value added service for mobile users in South Sudan. MTN TV, accessible via the app, features a variety of entertainment, news, music, and children’s programmes, catering to a growing base of mobile first viewers.

The service is available via the myMTN App or by dialling the shortcode *100*4#, giving users a simple way to activate the offer and start streaming.

According to MTN, the promotion is designed to reward loyal customers while encouraging more users to download and regularly use the myMTN App. The app provides mobile subscribers with options for airtime purchase, data bundle activation and access to digital services such as MTN TV.

MTN South Sudan says the Sunday campaign reflects the changing digital habits of its customers, many of whom rely on mobile devices as their primary source of information and entertainment.

In a country where traditional broadcast options remain limited in rural and low income urban areas, mobile streaming provides an alternative that is accessible and scalable.

The Sunday bundle also indirectly supports local content producers by growing the audience base for mobile TV, an emerging media platform in the region. MTN TV includes both in-house content and regional partnerships, giving South Sudanese viewers access to news, music videos, sports and cultural programming.

While the offer is generous in its value, actual access still depends on smartphone ownership, reliable mobile data connectivity and enough airtime credit. Nevertheless, MTN’s initiative reflects a broader telecom strategy of bundling digital services to deepen customer engagement and provide more value for basic top-ups.

MTN’s free MTN TV Sunday promotion sets a precedent for mobile led media distribution in the country particularly among the youth and urban users seeking affordable entertainment.
