The British Embassy in South Sudan has officially announced the opening of applications for the 2026 to 2027 Chevening Scholarships. These scholarships offer fully funded opportunities for South Sudanese nationals to pursue one-year Master’s degrees at universities across the United Kingdom.

During a live broadcast on Urban FM in Juba on 8 August 2025, British Ambassador David Ashley, along with current Chevening scholar Adeng Malual, introduced the scholarship and encouraged eligible candidates from South Sudan to apply.

Funded by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Chevening Scholarships aim to support individuals who have displayed leadership potential and a commitment to making a positive impact in their home countries.

Professionals, graduates, and aspiring leaders who meet the eligibility criteria and are interested in studying in the UK for one academic year are encouraged to apply. The scholarship covers all tuition fees, living expenses, visa costs, and return flights.

Adeng Malual, currently studying in the UK under the Chevening programme, shared her experiences and encouraged South Sudanese graduates to take advantage of this opportunity. Ambassador Ashley highlighted the importance of education in building future leadership for South Sudan.

Applications for a wide range of Master’s degree programmes in fields such as public policy, law, health, agriculture, education, economics, and peacebuilding are now open. The deadline for submitting applications is 7 October 2025, and all applications must be submitted online through the official Chevening website.

To be eligible, applicants must be citizens of South Sudan, hold a university degree equivalent to a UK upper second class honours, and have at least two years of work experience. Strong leadership qualities, academic potential, and a clear vision for how their studies will benefit South Sudan are also required.

The British Embassy encourages eligible South Sudanese individuals to apply for the Chevening scholarships, emphasizing their belief in the potential of South Sudanese youth and professionals to lead positive change.

Successful applicants will become part of the global network of Chevening alumni, joining over 55,000 individuals worldwide who have gone on to hold leadership roles in various sectors.

Prospective candidates are advised to start preparing their applications early by gathering references, selecting eligible universities, and writing their personal statements.

The Chevening programme is a prestigious initiative promoting international exchange and supporting the development of future leaders in the region.
