(AWEIL) – A fourth year student at the University of Bahr El Ghazal (UBG), who had planned to leave university due to high tuition fees, has now decided to continue his studies after receiving support from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and encouragement from friends.

The student, Ayai Deng Ngang, had been struggling to afford the new tuition rates at UBG. Facing significant financial pressure, he had initially made up his mind to withdraw from the university before the next academic year.

However, after his story gained public attention, leaders from the SPLM Secretariat in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State reached out to offer financial sponsorship. Alongside this, friends and members of the community encouraged him to stay in school.

In an interview with Aweil News Agency, Ayai said the unexpected support had changed his decision.

“I changed my mind about leaving because many friends and SPLM leaders reached out to me. I am very thankful for their help and advice. I appreciate everyone who showed kindness to me,” he said.

Though Ayai admitted he had been feeling anxious and overwhelmed by the rising tuition costs, he expressed relief and gratitude for the assistance. He also thanked the media for helping bring attention to his case, which he believes played a major role in mobilising the support he received.
