(BELGOROD, RUSSIA) – Authorities in the city of Belgorod initiated emergency evacuation procedures following the discovery of an unexploded Russian aerial munition on Gubkina Street. Reports from the ASTRA Telegram channel and regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov indicate that the munition fell from a Russian fighter jet but failed to detonate upon impact.

Video evidence from the scene shows the ordnance embedded deep within the ground in a residential area. Valentin Demidov, the mayor of the city, stated that explosives technicians from the Ministry of Defence are currently conducting an inspection of the site to determine the level of risk.

In response to the discovery, local police and the State Road Safety Inspectorate established a security cordon around the affected zone and suspended all traffic flow. While official sources have not yet specified the exact model of the munition, local residents have widely identified the object as an aerial bomb. This event marks a recurring issue with Russian military hardware operating over domestic territory.

A similar incident occurred on 20 April 2023, which resulted in a crater approximately 20 metres wide forming on a public street. In that previous instance, an explosion at the intersection of Vatutin and Gubkin streets caused significant property damage and propelled a vehicle onto the roof of a local shop. The Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin, has presided over an increasingly frequent series of accidental munitions drops as the military remains under strain.
