(MOSCOW, RUSSIA) – Prominent Russian state media figures have expressed significant approval regarding the recent geopolitical approach taken by Donald Trump toward traditional Western allies. During a broadcast of the television programme The Evening With Vladimir Solovyov, the host and State Duma deputy Andrey Lugovoy analysed the current shifts in American foreign policy with a notable level of enthusiasm.
The discussion focused heavily on the perceived disruption of long established alliances. Solovyov remarked that no previous American leader has initiated such radical changes within a single year of governance.
He specifically highlighted the pressure placed on European nations, suggesting that decades old allies are being forced to accept a subordinate status. The commentators noted that economic pressure is being applied even to nations that previously considered themselves immune to such measures due to their shared ideological alignment with the United States.
A significant portion of the dialogue centred on the territorial interest in Greenland and the broader implications for the European Union. The Russian state media representatives suggested that the European Union is currently fractured by internal divisions.
They cited remarks from officials suggesting that the influence of the United Kingdom and continental Europe has diminished significantly. According to the broadcast, European nations are being presented with a difficult choice regarding their reliance on the American nuclear umbrella.
The commentators questioned whether the United States would be willing to risk its own major cities to protect European capitals such as London, Paris, or Berlin. They argued that the demand for territory like Greenland represents a form of international humiliation for Europe.
The Russian broadcasters concluded that the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is effectively dissolving as the United States asserts a dominant role over its partners, whom the commentators described in derogatory terms as having no remaining sovereign standing.
