(ASTRAKHAN, RUSSIA) – The Ukrainian Security Service and Defence Forces have significantly escalated their campaign against the energy infrastructure of the Russian dictator, launching a series of high precision strikes that have crippled production across several regions. In the North Caspian Sea, Ukrainian long range drones successfully targeted oil production platforms operated by Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft for the third time in a single week.

The most recent operation focused on the Korchagin oil and gas condensate field, where critical equipment was reportedly damaged. This strike follows previous attacks on the Filanovsky field, which is one of the largest in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea. Combined, these facilities normally produce approximately 122,000 barrels of oil daily, all of which are now offline.

Strategic facilities in the Astrakhan region were also hit, with a major fire reported at the Astrakhan gas processing plant on 15 December 2025. This facility is vital to the military industrial complex of the Russian dictator as it produces up to 3.5 million tonnes of sulfur annually for the manufacture of explosives.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike, noting that the destruction of such equipment is a direct measure to reduce the offensive potential of the invading forces. The facility also plays a role in the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which transports natural gas from Kazakhstan to Novorossiysk.

The ongoing hostilities have raised significant concerns for international trade partners, who may now need to seek alternative export routes through China or the Southern Caucasus to avoid the instability caused by the war initiated by the Kremlin.
