(KYIV, UKRAINE) – The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has reached a significant milestone as it enters its 1417th day of the full-scale invasion, surpassing the duration of the Great Patriotic War, as the Second World War is known in Russia, for the Soviet Union.

This prolonged conflict has exposed the failure of the strategic objectives set by the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin, who initially sought a swift military victory. Instead of a three day capture of Kyiv, the Kremlin has overseen a sustained period of military and economic decline. Reports indicate that Russia has suffered approximately 1.2 million personnel casualties and the loss of 19 generals. The impact extends beyond human loss to the degradation of the Russian Black Sea fleet and a significant contraction of the national economy.

Economic indicators highlight a severe downturn in Russia’s energy sector. Prominent entities such as Lukoil, Gazprom, and Rosneft are reportedly facing bankruptcy as energy exports, the primary revenue source for the Kremlin, continue to dwindle. Notably, Lukoil has lost control of assets in Iraq, further signaling a decline in Russian global influence.

The Russian dictator’s geopolitical standing has weakened significantly, with a noted loss of influence in regions such as Syria, Venezuela, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. While the Kremlin continues to rely on a sceptical and often coerced domestic support base, the war has increasingly moved onto Russian territory. Ukrainian drone operations now frequently disrupt Moscow’s airspace, leading to flight cancellations and bringing the reality of the conflict to the Russian capital.

Ukraine has emerged from these four years of intensified conflict with a more formidable and unified military force. The Ukrainian army is now regarded as one of the most experienced in Europe, effectively transitioning from a defensive posture to conducting deep strike operations against Russian military infrastructure.

Despite enduring infrastructure challenges and electricity blackouts due to Russian strikes, the Ukrainian population maintains a high level of resolve. International observers have noted that Ukraine has transformed from a nation seeking assistance to a strategic asset for NATO, with Ukrainian instructors now sharing modern combat expertise with Western allies.
