(MOSCOW, RUSSIA) – The Kremlin has reacted positively to the new United States National Security Strategy issued under Donald Trump, noting that the document no longer identifies Russia as a direct threat. Instead, it places emphasis on criticism of European nations for their approach to supporting Ukraine following the Russian invasion in 2022.

The new United States strategy outlines a softer approach toward Russia and proposes a focus on stabilising relations between Washington and Moscow. This marks a departure from earlier strategic documents that highlighted Russia as a major security challenge.

According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, Moscow sees the changes as a constructive step. He stated that Russia requires more time to thoroughly examine the document before forming a complete assessment.

Meanwhile, the European Union has responded to the shift in tone from Washington. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said that despite evident disagreements over Ukraine and security priorities, the United States remains the European Union’s most important ally. She emphasised that cooperation between both sides continues to be critical for collective security.

The adjustment in United States policy comes at a time when Ukraine continues to appeal for stronger international support to repel Russian forces occupying parts of its territory. Within Europe, concerns remain that any reduction in pressure on Moscow could weaken the response to the war and impact long term commitments to Ukraine.
